Biofeedback Stress Programs

Our biofeedback stress programs are interventions and solutions designed for you to understand and reduce the impact of stressors on your body and mind. The aim of these programs is to help you increase your ability to raise your coping skills, to learn therapeutic breathing techniques and increase energy levels to bring harmony and balance to your body and mind to promote good general health and well being.

If you have ever taken your temperature or stepped on a scale to see how much you weigh, you have used biofeedback. The temperature and weight readings from these devices give "feedback" about your body to tell you whether you have a fever or have gained weight. This information will help you make decisions about what to do next. In a similar way, biofeedback therapists use specialized equipment to train clients/patients how to improve their health by using signals from their own bodies.

We use our biofeedback devices in conjunction with behavioral and cognitive therapy, evaluations and assessments. Biofeedback, also known as neurofeedback is a non invasive, very safe and effective therapy approach which uses devices and systems to measure and display body functions and states such as heart rate, skin temperature, muscle action and brain activity. The functions are monitored and recorded to see how and why the client reacts and responses to change through stages of stress, anxiety, rest and other activity and can help with depression relief. Eventually the client will learn to control these functions to cope successfully with stress and anxiety periods, lower blood pressure and aid in overall relaxation process as well as helping increase sleep efficiency, concentration and focus levels. The diagrams show you an example of biofeedback devices and what is monitored and recorded.

Stress

Stress is an emotional response to a situation either real or imagined. Our body has an inbuilt physical response to stressful situations. When faced with pressure, challenge or danger, we need to react quickly, and our bodies release hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline to help us. These hormones are part of the "fight or flight" response and affect our heart rate, blood pressure sweat glands & pulse rate that prepares our body for how to react. For some people this can damage and reduce their ability to cope.

Depression

Depression is caused by an imbalance of certain chemicals in the brain; this imbalance can be sorted with an anti depressant, as it acts to rectify the imbalance that allows you a chance to bring your coping skills back up. Our approaches are part of the complementary therapy field & they work in conjunction with your medical treatment. Our approaches help you find the root causes and help to reduce the fears surrounding these issues. If you think you are suffering from Major depression seek help and advice from your doctor first before trying alternative approaches. This same advice goes for those currently on medication.
